Featured Wedding: Kristin & Phillip

*Update* Kristin and Phillip’s gorgeous wedding is featured in the Winter/Spring 2013 issue of Seattle Met Bride and Groom! We are thrilled! Pick up a copy- we’re on pages 39-42!

Where do I even start? From our very first meeting, I just knew that working with Kristin would turn out to be one of my favorite experiences as a wedding florist. There is just something about collaborating with another creative soul to create a beautiful day of celebration! When a bride comes to a consult armed not just with photos, but with inspiration boards, I know we’re going to have some fun! As if her being a fellow creative were not enough, Kristin also turned out to be one of the sweetest people I’ve had the pleasure of knowing. Can you say dream client?!

During our first meeting, I asked Kristin to describe the overall look and feel she was hoping to achieve for her wedding. She wanted a large color palette with an anchor of seafoam and metallics with a vintage-modern vibe and a beachy/cinco de mayo twist (their wedding was on May 5th). I had so much fun playing with color and texture, and I really love the way everything turned out! Kristin left no detail unattended to- my assistant Kylie and I actually spent a few minutes once we were done with our floral install to just wander the venue and take in all of the sweet personal touches.

I asked Kristin a few questions about her experience working with Paisley Petals & am happy to share her responses with you. Enjoy! (all photos courtesy of the brilliant Mr. James Moes)

What were some of your favorite moment(s) of your wedding day? There were so many! Getting ready at my Mom’s with the women in my family and all the bridesmaids was a great way to start the day. Seeing Phillip for the first time was really emotional, he waited for me under a willow tree, which is what he had proposed under as well! We were beyond pleased with the decorations and the flowers, so walking into Sodo Park before anyone had arrived was really special. It felt like all of our hard work had really paid off! The people, though, are the most memorable part. Our pastor did a fabulous job, we had friends fly in from all over the world, and our bridal party was there all day long to get all excited with us. Phillip and I took communion together before the ceremony all by ourselves. We sat up in the bridal loft, prayed, and really thought about what was about to begin. Standing up there with him was the greatest feeling in the whole world. We are blessed!

Any advice for engaged couples currently planning their weddings? Let go of things that seem impossible, let other people help you, and don’t be afraid to ask! I had big visions for our wedding and I tend to try and do everything on my own. Between work, Phillip and I maintaining a healthy dating relationship (not easy during engagement!), side projects, time with family and girlfriends, and SO much more, I needed help! So, I farmed out some of my tasks to family and friends. They were all so generous, especially my Mom!

Otherwise, I would recommend staying organized! Use marthastewartweddings.com for your budgeter, guest list, and seating chart. It saved my toosh. We even went as far as keeping decorations for each part of the venue in grouped boxes with labels and photos of them pre-staged so that the day-of planner didn’t get too stressed or confused. Which reminds me, having a day-of planner is incredibly important!

What you are you two up to these days? Well, Phillip and I live in Queen Anne in Seattle. He works at Zillow as an Account Manager, and I’m a Graphic Designer at Dapper + Associates. We love spending time in all of Seattle’s adorable neighborhoods, going to Mariner’s games, spending time with friends and family, and dreaming of what we want to do next. Things are quite blissful!

Your thoughts on working with Paisley Petals? Best wedding decision, hands down! She completely understood my vision, was graceful and organized, and she absolutely loves what she does. Paula really impressed me with her creativity and the personal touches in everything. She is very thoughtful and she will do a great job with your wedding/event flowers!

Kristen’s bouquet was so much fun to put together! So much texture and color. We used tulips, ranunculus, peonies, succulents, larkspur, scabiosa, lotus pods, silver dollar eucalyptus, and a really lovely, feathery dark foliage whose name escapes me at the moment. (it’s wedding season- give me a break!)

Love this photo- isn’t she pretty?! And check out Phillip’s succulent boutonniere!

The centerpieces were probably my favorite floral element of Kristin & Philip’s wedding. Kristin found some lovely glass compote vases to give the arrangements some height. We designed the pieces with an asymetrical, flowing shape with lots of color. We also used driftwood, succulents, air plants and mercury glass on each table to add more interest.

Close up of table details.

I was also really happy with how the cake turned out. Kristin and I dubbed this look the “cake corsage.” Just enough color to punch things up & tie it all together.
